Carter's understanding of the geology of the Valley of the Kings and his very intimate knowledge of the state of the tombs that intersect the same stony hillock as the tomb of Tutankhamun gave him particular advantage in this analysis. • The three volume series, written for the public, was the only thing Carter wrote about the tomb. His style and details perfectly capture the flavour of the period and the atmosphere around the find and preservation of the tomb.
• Having just read "Lady Almina", I'm sure I'll enjoy this. Fascinating story leading up to discovery and I know I'll enjoy this book.
• If you love King Tut history, you will love this book.
• It would be a mistake to read this book without having read Volume I and Volume II first, because they provide a lot of context. However, the third volume of Howard Carter's classic work does not disappoint and actually would be an interesting read on its own.
  
  The earlier volumes dealt with the discovery and the mummy; this one deals largely with objects in the two auxiliary rooms in the tomb, the Treasury and the Annex. It has a lot of other interesting information in it, including what the publisher mentions in the description about the mysterious source of moisture in the tomb.
  
  Carter not only plays archaeologist but is something of a detective (which all archaeologists must be). He spends quite a lot of time trying to understand exactly how ancient tomb-robbers had moved around in the tomb and exactly how they had disturbed objects. The tomb was broken into and resealed twice and Carter even finds objects that the robbers had clearly dropped during a quick exit. Whether or not they were caught is unknown.
  
  By the time he found Tut's tomb, Carter had been in Egypt for many years. He had a broad understanding of the modern Egyptians as well as the ancient history, art, and the science of archaeology.
  
  As with the earlier volumes, inclusion of high-res digital copies of the Harry Burton photos would have been a treat. But the digital images used in this book are fine and do help with the enjoyment of the story. I think anyone with an interest in ancient history, Egyptophile or not, would enjoy reading this series. It's an exciting tale!
