Kill Team Galaxy Edge Jason Anspach Nick Cole Books Reviews

  • The third installment in Galaxy's Edge begins where the second one left off - but then you get pulled back to where the first book ended in a flashback that starts to fill in some of the questions such as 'Is this Wraith the same as the captain in book one' and ' What happened to get from Republic vs MCR' to 'The 'Point' is doing WHAT?' in book two.

Spoilers below if you haven't read book one and two

This book begins with Aeson Keel (aka Wraith from book 2) flying his ship, when he gets a message, the scene shifts to a flashback of Wraith, Chhun, etc. as they escaped the planet in the first book, and follows their exploits as they volunteer to be a Dark Ops, the Legion's version of Delta, the SEALS, SAS, etc. The book also explains that there is a layer darker than that, Nether Ops, which does very horrible things in order to hopefully stop the unthinkable.

Very good, it's clear the authors are on a roll, and hopefully they don't stop anytime soon. The evolution of Chhun, Wraith, Kags, Masters, Exo, and Twenties into an elite Kill Team for Dark Ops is a good read, and finding out how, and why, the Chiasm was destroyed in book 1 is a revelation.
  • So yeah, book 1 was ok. Book 2 started up the fire that will surely burn the galaxy down. Book 3 continues from where book 2 ended and then just goes on a crazy history of our characters and while you want to get back to the present. It just doesn’t matter because it is so fricking awesome.

I originally got these because I was waiting for another series to publish, but yeah I am all in now. I should have been asleep hours ago. Just wait til the end of this one. Holy bomb shells of non linear story telling. So insane. So awesome
  • Wow.

I just finished the 3rd book in the Galaxy's Edge series, and I was absolutely blown away! I'm loving this series more and more with each entry.

This book takes place immediately after the end of Legionnaire, the first novel, and partially fills in the 7-year gap between Legionnaire and Galactic Outlaws, the second novel. (If you haven't read those ones, you really should before jumping in here. There isn't a whole lot of time dedicated to explaining events in the previous books.) The novel is split between our heroes from the first book, who are recruited to a Dark Ops kill team to hunt down the rebels who were responsible for the events of the first book, and a Nether Ops spy who is working on the same problem from a different angle.

The spy's perspective feels very different than the other narratives we've seen already, and I enjoyed watching him spiral into the wilderness of mirrors as he tries to become the villain he is expected to be as an undercover agent while keeping true to who he really is.

The Dark Ops team was more familiar (as it was basically a direct continuation of what we've already seen) but was thrilling nonetheless.

I'm enjoying the attempts to explore this universe from different angles with each story. It'll be impressive if the authors can continue this going forward.

I can't wait for the next one! KTF!
  • This book is really two books in one; and both are fantastic.

The first follows the survivors of Victory Company after the Battle of Kublar as they hunt down those responsible for Chiasm's destruction. You see the evolution of both Chhun and Ford and a lot of the causes of what happened in book 2 is explained by this storyline. Great fight scenes and a tense, moving finale make this a great story in its own right.

The second plot line follows "Tom" as he attempts to hunt down rebels and gets in over his head in the galaxy's seedy underbelly. It's a John Le Carre flavored noir that pulls at your heartstrings when you follow "Tom" on his journey. You will cry, yell at, and ultimately cheer for him; especially in the finale when the two stories combine. Get this book. You will love it. Get the other books in the series too if you haven't already.
  • After the battle for Kublar, the Legionnaires want answers, they want to know who is responsible for the loss of so many lives, and for the destruction of their ship over the planet. Expecting to lose their Field Commissions on return to another ship, Captain Ford and Lieutenant Chhun are instead surprised to find that they are permanently appointed to these positions, and even more surprised when they are offered a position on a Kill Team doing Dark Ops. Joined by an experienced Dark Ops operative, they are quickly off on missions to track down those that cost the Legion, those that sold the bombs, and to find out what could be next.
Whilst running missions, they learn from an inside source that things are worse than they thought, another mission is planned by the MCR and this time their target will upset the entire Galaxy.
It is up to the Indelible 6, a Dark Ops Kill Team made up of the Legions best, to stop it, to save the Galaxy before it burns. Time to KTF.
Whilst it might seem that this books are guns and glory, they aren’t. These are well thought out, incredibly well written stories with keen tactical and strategic knowledge, exceptional characters and some brilliant tech. The combat scenes are outstanding, written with in-depth skill, so that you feel like you are standing in the room watching the battle take place in front on you.
This is a book that will suit all readers, those looking for a fantastic read of black ops, and skilled combat (I still say it has an edge of an Adults Only version of Star Wars the Clone Wars, with the Elite Clones to TacOps), but it also covers aspects of the Political Intrigue going on behind the scenes, looks at the soldier’s lives and how this is affecting them, and then there is the Espionage aspect of it as well, with all the cloak and dagger stuff going on behind the scenes as well. This book has something for everyone.
Best of all though, it is just exceptionally well written, Chhun, Tom, and all the other characters are just beautifully constructed, so real, so in-depth with their emotions, their responses, the dialogue.
This is a book that you will pick up, and just be glued to, whipping through pages and not be able to put down as you have to know what happens.
Galaxy’s Edge is the place to be, for a brilliant read you don’t want to miss.
